Site Superintendents

Job Description

Canbian is currently seeking Site Superintendents for a full-time permanent position to join our team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing and maintaining a safe work site, ensuring that all requirements of the OH&S code are met and that all Canbian policies are followed
  • Performing formal Canbian orientations to all new workers, visitors, and sub-trades and being an active participant in the mentorship and development of all Canbian workers
  • Participating in developing a cost-effective plan and scheduling for completion of the project and following a logical pattern for utilization for resources
  • Understanding of the contract and scope of work, ensuring scope of work is clearly communicated to trades
  • Reviewing of drawings and specifications
  • Scheduling throughout the whole construction phase and developing, maintaining, and communicating the two-week look ahead
  • Co-ordinating the work of sub-contractors working on various phases of the project and ensuring that all sub-contractors are complying with mandatory Canbian safety requirements
  • Co-ordinating with sub-trades to ensure all work is in compliance with the contract documents
  • Keeping a daily log of site activities on the project
  • Log all trades and number of personnel/trades, description of the work, weather, and safety hazards or issues
  • Track inventory for tools and equipment and initiating requisitions for needed parts/repairs or materials
  • Maintain accuracy for as built drawings for underground utilities and planning changes as they occur
  • Participate in and lead on site meetings with clients, consultants, inspectors a

Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Need at least 5-10 years of experience as a superintendent in ICI construction industry
  • High school or post-secondary education
  • Valid Driver’s License and Vehicle
  • This role requires excellent communication skills, as you collaborate with various people, such as construction workers, architects, engineers and clientele
  • Excellent leadership ability, communication skills, and enthusiasm
  • Superior organizational and critical thinking skills
  • Professional manner, along with your problem-solving skills and your commitment to the role will ensure your skills in delivering quality workmanship while keeping the team motivated
  • Experience in supervising and organizing mid-large crew sizes
  • Solid understanding of modern construction practices
  • The ability to read and interpret working drawings and shop drawings
  • A strong attention to detail, proven problem resolution skills and superior interpersonal skills are also required for this position
  • Ability to work efficiently with a service-orientated attitude, courtesy, tact and diplomacy under stressful situations under constant interruption
  • Ability to use Microsoft office software, including excel, word and outlook
  • Communication – display strong written and oral communication skills in English and employs effective listening skills.

Journeyman & Apprentice Carpenters

Job Description

We are currently seeking Carpenters and Apprentice Carpenters for a full-time permanent position to join our team.

  • Demonstrate the proper safety procedures as set out in the OH&S and company safety manuals
  • Interpret and apply information in drawings, specifications, building codes, and/or receive instruction from supervisor
  • Layout, install, or remove temporary structures and fixtures, including scaffolding, ladders, railings, and rigging installation
  • Cutting and fastening materials as required, doing the layout including selecting materials, planning sequences and methods of work, and measuring marking materials to avoid costly mistakes
  • Working with various tools and materials, lifting, pulling, or pushing, carrying and manipulating objects up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with other employees and supervisors
  • Must be able to work in a multi-trade environment
  • Must have a commitment to safe work practices and be able to adhere to safety policies

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Licensed Alberta Journey person, Red Seal Certificate (An Asset) or a registered apprentice with a blue book
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience with the above duties
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and Vehicle
  • Self-motivated, reliable, flexible and proactive with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Able to organize assigned tasks for completion alone or with help
  • Strong work ethic, willingness to take initiative
  • Must be able to work independently and with a team
  • Must display a positive attitude and emotional intelligence
  • Leadership skills to supervise labourers
  • Proven written and verbal communication abilities
  • Must be willing to work out of town if/when required
  • May be required to complete a criminal record check to work on site

Skilled Labourers

Job Description

Canbian Inc. is a full-service general contractor specializing in ICI construction projects in Edmonton and surrounding areas for over 35 years. We are currently seeking Skilled Labourer’s for a full-time permanent position to join our team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Take instruction from immediate Supervisor to complete tasks as outlined daily
  • Observe and follow safe work policies and procedures
  • Lift up to 50lbs and navigate construction job site terrain
  • Climb to heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints
  • Prep construction sites by clearing obstacles and hazards, minor demolition work
  • Backfill trenches and pits when necessary
  • Help equipment operators, carpenters, and other skilled labourers when necessary
  • Direct traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists, and workers
  • Attend required meetings as requested
  • Ready to learn from on-the-job training when necessary
  • Operate and care for construction equipment

Requirements & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Drivers License and Vehicle
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Must have experience as a skilled labourer in the construction industry
  • Must be willing to work out of town if/when required
  • May be required to complete a criminal record check to work on site
